Biography[edit | edit source]
Groa is poor, young father way in over his head. He is in his mid-30s, and while he loves his wife Csaba and son Tomi tremendously, he wonders what part of his life he lost by settling down too early. Groa doesn’t have wanderlust, per se, but when angry and drunk (which is more frequent these days), Groa begins to blame his misfortunes on his family.
Groa and Csaba grew up together, along with Tamas, Sandor, Dorottya, and Etel, and while close to them all, had paired off early in their lives and the two were always recognized as a couple. Groa’s dad was a miner (as was Groa), and when his father was killed his mother drank herself to death. Groa moved in with Csaba when they were both teens. Occasionally, Groa believes that he was pressured to propose to Csaba in exchange for her parents’ raising him.
But at other times, Groa is incredibly devoted to his family, thinking nothing of the hard work he does to take care of them and bring home food. When he notices the family’s station, he blames himself. This dichotomy is slowly driving Groa crazy.
When the mines below Vidar dried up, Groa took to hunting through the forest outside of Vidar for food, using the family dog to help. With the blizzard driving away animals and covering up berries etc., Groa has started searching the cave for anything edible. He was told by Gusztav that there are edible mushrooms in the cave, and Katarina has indicated that there is a fresh water source below which may still have fish. The day before the game starts, Groa enters the cave with his dog. He begins the game not in Vidar, and must be found and rescued by the player.
